The Street Where I Live
A little while ago CBC Radio 2 ran a contest to nominate your favourite road or street. A sweet nostalgic trip down memory lane conjured many of the roads I have travelled. But slowly what won out is little McLeod Road, the road that our house sits atop. It is a simple country road without fanfare or pomp that almost finishes before it begins. Lined with hydro poles and towering evergreens, I walk down it almost daily with Michael and our dogs. It is quiet enough that we can talk with ease, free to stretch out and take up the entire road without fear. It is a road where our neighbours, who have become friends, live. A sloping roller coaster road that disappears into the distance, it lends easily to the feeling of expansiveness for which Hornby is so famous.
